This antique, rare Sujen Ampel keris dates from the Madura abad XVII (17th century).
The ancient wilah is forged with the very rare pamor Untuk Banyu. According to the Javanese, the image of pamor Untuk Banyu resembles foaming water and, according to the Lombok kriss experts, it resembles the shell of a sea turtle. In any case, the pamor motif is complicated and only an expert empu is able to create it. Most krisses with this rare pamor motif were made in Madura during the Mataram era. The magical power of pamor Untuk Banyu simplifies earning daily bread, promotes interaction and popularity and increases authority. In addition, the magical power of this pamor motif has the power to increase the sense of thrift and reduce wasteful qualities. This pamor motif is mainly sought after by entrepreneurs and merchants. In Lombok there is a belief that the magical power of this pamor motif is helpful in conflicts and has a positive effect on safety while traveling.
Furthermore, the wilah is forged to Sujen Ampel dapur (shape). Sujen Ampel is one of the dapur forms which is quite rare at present. Dapur Sujen Ampel has been around since the Mataram kingdom and was first made in the 14th to 16th centuries. A keris with this dapur has a straight blade of which the length of the blade is around 35 cm and the total length of this keris is about 40.8 cm. A Sujen Ampel keris has powers that make it easier for people to get along, it is very easy to find and maintain friends or relationships. In addition, a Sujen Ampel keris generates wealth for the owner because his business or career will flourish. So, it is not surprising that so many people are looking for a keris like this.
The top of the keris is adorned with a beautiful, antique Nunggak semi hilt with deeply carved patra-patra’s (masks).
The keris is housed in a Solo Gayaman warangka of rare and stunning Timoho Pelet wood. A bunton pendok of mamas (silver alloy) with floral decorations covers the gandar.
The Isi of this antique keris is lively and communicative. It has a strong connection to the elephant God Ganesha. Ganesha or Ganapathi is considered to be the Lord or Master of the Ganas or hordes or community of Lord Shiva. He is also called Vighneshwara or Vinayaka, the remover of obstacles. Ganesha is also considered as the God of intellect and wisdom and also as the guide or promoter of arts and science. So, any auspicious act or deed or art or science or literature is supposed to be initiated to get its blessings and remove obstacles to success and achievement. Ganesha had three wives; Buddhi, Siddhi and Riddhi which were synonymous with intellect, spiritual strength and prosperity. The interpretation is that a keris with Ganesha dapur possesses spiritual powers which endows its owner with intellect, spiritual strength and prosperity.
