This is a rare and finely crafted example of a Lombok Pedang. At first glance one would classify this Pedang as originating from Sumatra. Indeed, there are similarities between pedang lombok and makara (pedang) from Palembang / south Sumatra.
 
I had the honor of acquiring this rare rare amd exclusive Pedang from a collector from Mataram, Lombok. This man's collection is impressive, to say the least. I would be happy to tell you more about it upon request.
 
The Pedang houses is a sheath and hilt in Makara form of silver. The sheath is fully encased with well reposed silver panels and the hilt boasts equally complex silver work.
 
The long and jet-black blade with an arcing profile and a single sharp edge having double deep fuller in the middle is decorated with Arabic calligraphy in silver inlay. On request I will gladly send you the translation of the Arabic calligraphy. I had the blade ritually and professionally treated with warangan in Indonesia so that the silver calligraphy contrasts beautifully against the jet-black background of the blade.
 
I estimate the blade to date from the 19th century with fittings from the first half of the 20th century.

Zeldzame zilveren Lombok Pedang – Prachtige zilveren greep en zilveren schede met diep gedreven florale motieven – Kling ingelegd met Arabische kalligrafie in zilver.
 
Dit is een zeldzaam en fijn vervaardigd exemplaar van een Lombok Pedang. Op het eerste gezicht zou men deze Pedang classificeren als afkomstig uit Sumatra. Er zijn inderdaad overeenkomsten tussen Pedang lombok en makara (pedang) uit Palembang/zuid Sumatra.
 
Ik had de eer deze zeldzame en exclusieve Pedang te mogen overnmen van een verzamelaar uit Mataram, Lombok. De collectie van deze man is op zijn minst indrukwekkend te noemen. Op verzoek vertel ik u er graag meer over.
 
De Pedang huist in een schede met een greep in Makara vorm eveneens van zilver. De schede is volledig omhuld met goed geplaatste zilveren panelen en de greep is uitgevoerd in even complex zilverwerk.
 
De lange en gitzwarte kling met een boogvormig profiel en een enkele scherpe rand met bloedgeul in het midden is versierd met Arabische kalligrafie in zilveren inleg. Op verzoek stuur ik u graag de vertaling van de Arabische kalligrafie. Ik heb de kling in Indonesië ritueel en professioneel laten behandelen met warangan zodat de zilveren kalligrafie prachtig contrasteert met de gitzwarte achtergrond van het lemmet.
 
Ik schat de kling te dateren van de 19e eeuw met aankleding uit de eerste helft van de 20ste eeuw.
