This magnificent, antique keris is a high-status Lombok Keris, recognizable by its large, robust proportions and the distinct artistic style of the Lesser Sunda Islands. It features a specific “Brojol Dapur" (blade shape) and "Hulu" (hilt) that carry deep symbolic meaning. Furthermore the blade is finished in elaborate Kinatah (gold plating), featuring Singa’s (lions) and complex floral motifs. 
 
1. The Hilt: The Tagog Figure.
The hilt of this keris is a masterpiece of Balinese/Lombok woodcarving, depicting the mythical figure Tagog (or Togog). Tagog is a divine "clown-servant" (punakawan) from the shadow puppet tradition. He is often depicted with a large, laughing mouth and a round belly.
Symbolism: Despite his comical appearance, Tagog represents the "hidden" deity. He is the elder brother of the supreme god, sent to earth to guide humans. Having Tagog on a hilt symbolizes spiritual protection, humility, and the wisdom to see beyond physical appearances.
 
2. The Blade: Kinatah Gold Work
The wilah is exceptionally ornate, featuring extensive Kinatah (gold inlay or plating) decoration.
Floral and Faunal Motifs: The gold work depicts intricate vines and several animals. Look closely at the base (gandik); you will see multiple Singa’s (lions), which represent power and guardianship.
 
Dapur (Shape): This is a straight blade (keris lurus). Straight blades are traditionally associated with focused spiritual energy, steadfastness, and the "quiet power" of a leader.
 
Pamor: Underneath the gold, the blade is made of layers of iron and nickel, creating a Pamor (patterned) surface. This indicates a high-quality forging process involving multiple folds of metal.
 
3. The Sheath: Timoho Wood
The sheath (warangka) is made from Timoho wood (Kleinhovia hospita).
The Pelet: The dark, irregular stripes on the wood are called Pelet. In keris culture, these patterns are not just decorative; they are believed to have their own "Tuah" (spiritual power) that can bring luck or protection to the owner.
Style: The broad, curved top of the sheath is typical of the Baton Poh style, which is considered more suitable for daily wear or formal courtly attire.

This keris was likely commissioned for a person of high rank or a wealthy merchant. De wilah is uitzonderlijk rijk versierd, met uitgebreide Kinatah (goudinleg of -plating) decoratie.
 
Bloem- en dierenmotieven: Het goudwerk toont ingewikkelde wijnranken en verschillende dieren. Kijk goed naar de basis (gandik); u ziet meerdere Singa's (leeuwen), die macht en bescherming symboliseren.
 
Dapur (Vorm): Dit is een Brojol wilah (keris lurus). Rechte wilahs worden traditioneel geassocieerd met geconcentreerde spirituele energie, standvastigheid en de "stille kracht" van een leider.
 
Pamor: Onder het goud is het lemmet gemaakt van lagen ijzer en nikkel, waardoor een pamor (patroon) ontstaat. Dit duidt op een hoogwaardig smeedproces waarbij meerdere metaalvouwen zijn toegepast.
 
3. De schede: Timoho-hout
De schede (warangka) is gemaakt van Timoho-hout.
 
De pelet: De donkere, onregelmatige strepen op het hout worden pelet genoemd. In de keris-cultuur zijn deze patronen niet alleen decoratief; men gelooft dat ze een eigen "Tuah" (spirituele kracht) bezitten die geluk of bescherming kan brengen aan de drager.
 
Stijl: De brede, gebogen bovenkant van de schede is typisch voor de Baton Poh-stijl, die geschikter wordt geacht voor dagelijks gebruik of formele hofkleding.
