This antique Rudus dates from the Sumatra abad XIX-era (19th century).
 
More than a mere weapon, the Rudus is a profound emblem of leadership, justice, and heritage from the Malay communities of Sumatra, particularly in Bengkulu. This is a rare and prestigious artifact, not simply carried, but wielded as a symbol of the leader’s mandate to protect the people and uphold the law. It is the ceremonial regalia of a newly appointed Datuk (chief), a physical representation of their oath.
 
The soul of the Rudus is its powerful wilah (blade), a magnificent expression of truth and justice. Its sharp edge signifies the ability to cut through lies and deceit, while its point represents the finality of a leader's judgment. This wilah is a work of art, forged with a striking silver version of pamor Ngulit Semanka (watermelon skin) that contrasts beautifully against the jet-black wilah. It is further adorned with a detailed Kebang Kecang and a distinctive blood trench that runs down a significant portion of its length, a testament to its formidable heritage.

Meer dan een wapen alleen, de Rudus is een krachtig symbool van leiderschap, rechtvaardigheid en het erfgoed van de Maleisische gemeenschappen op Sumatra, met name in Bengkulu.
