This rare and antique Pedang Rudus dates from the Sumatra abad XIX-era (19th century) .
 
The rudus is associated with the Islamic Malay culture. It is found to be more common in Sumatra than in the Malay peninsula. Together with the pemandap, the rudus is considered to be a symbol of the Sumatran Malay culture. The Acehnese people and the Malay of Bengkulu are recorded to have the rudus as their cultural identity. Rudus is also found in the Malay Banjar people of South Kalimantan, where it was an official traditional weapon of the province of South Kalimantan, together with the kuduk.
 
In the Islamic period of Indonesia, the island of Sumatra was divided into multiple small sultanates that were at war with each other. The province of Bengkulu in South Sumatra alone had many sultanates, among the sultanates were the Sultanate of Sungai Serut, Selebar, Pat Petulai, Balai Buntar, Sungai Lemau, Sekiris, Gedung Agung and Marau Riang. These warring sultanate states would equip their warriors with weapons e.g. the badik, rambai ayam and rudus. Rudus was also used in the ceremony of the election of the datuk, the chief of the adat.
 
During the colonial period, rudus was used by the natives as a form of resistance toward the colonial government. Because of this romanticized patriotic notion of using the rudus to rise against the oppressor, the rudus is featured in the seal of the Bengkulu province to symbolize heroism.
 
Furthermore, the wilah is forged with an amazing execution of two different pamors. At the base of the wilah pamor Uler Lulut can be admired, which changes into pamor Wusing Wutah in the length of the wilah.  Pamor Wusing Wutah is synonym for a full rice chest symbolizing material prosperity. This pamor brings peace and family, it allows the owner to grow faster in his career or brings business success to entrepreneurs. It not only brings abundant prosperity but it also enhances the social character and generosity of the owner.
 
The top of the Pedang is adorned with an equally rare and antique Tombok Lado hilt with finely carved decorations. The Pedang is housed in a matching scabbard of Purnama Sada wood (top part) and Timoho Pelet woood (bottom part).

Deze zeldzame en antieke Pedang Rudus dateert uit het Sumatra abad XIX-tijdperk (19e eeuw).
 
De Rudus wordt geassocieerd met de Islamitische Maleise cultuur. Hij komt vaker voor op Sumatra dan op het Maleisisch schiereiland. Samen met de pemandap wordt de rudus beschouwd als een symbool van de Sumatraanse Maleise cultuur. De Acehnese bevolking en de Maleis van Bengkulu hebben de rudus als hun culturele identiteit. De Rudus komt ook voor bij het Maleise Banjar-volk van Zuid-Kalimantan, waar het samen met de kuduk een officieel traditioneel wapen van de provincie Zuid-Kalimantan was.

Alleen al de provincie Bengkulu in Zuid-Sumatra had veel sultanaten, waaronder het Sultanaat van Sungai Serut, Selebar, Pat Petulai, Balai Buntar, Sungai Lemau, Sekiris, Gedung Agung en Marau Riang. Deze oorlogvoerende sultanaatstaten rustten hun krijgers uit met wapens zoals de badik, rambai ayam en rudus. Rudus werd ook gebruikt bij de ceremonie van de verkiezing van de datuk, het opperhoofd van de adat.
 
Tijdens de koloniale periode werd de rudus door de inheemse bevolking gebruikt als een vorm van verzet tegen de koloniale overheid. Vanwege dit geromantiseerde patriottische idee om de rudus te gebruiken om in opstand te komen tegen de onderdrukker, staat de rudus op het zegel van de provincie Bengkulu als symbool voor heldendom.
 
Verder is de wilah gesmeed met een verbazingwekkende uitvoering van twee verschillende pamors. Aan de basis van de wilah is pamor Uler Lulut te bewonderen, die in de lengte van de wilah overgaat in pamor Wusing Wutah.  Pamor Wusing Wutah is synoniem voor een volle rijstkist die materiële welvaart symboliseert. Deze pamor brengt vrede en familie, het laat de eigenaar sneller groeien in zijn carrière of brengt ondernemers zakelijk succes. Het brengt niet alleen overvloedige welvaart, maar versterkt ook het sociale karakter en de vrijgevigheid van de eigenaar.
 
De bovenkant van de Pedang is versierd met een al even zeldzame en antieke Tombok Lado greep met fijn gesneden versieringen.
 
De Pedang huist in een bijpassende schede van Purnama Sada hout (bovenste deel) en Timoho Pelet hout (onderste deel).
